Barnstead Benchtop steam sterilizer, model C2250,
MSU # 03987.
Although the operation of this device is not complicated, it does operate at high temperatures and elevated pressures. Read, follow and understand the following safety procedures. Check the water level in the reservoir before each use. The reservoir is filled through an opening on top of the unit. Only use deionized water in the unit. The level should be equal to that of the small perforated plate. If the chamber is cool, open the door and use the chamber fill button to let water into the unit. Stop the fill when the water level is about an inch (2.5 cm) below the lip. Never allow water into a hot chamber. Close and latch the door. Make sure the vent valve is turned fully clockwise to the stoppered flask icon. Set the desired temperature and timer. It should take between ten and twenty minutes for the sterilizer to reach the correct temperature. The timing light will come on when the setpoint is reached. Check the pressure gauge, it should read approximately 27 psi at 270 F. If not, notify your instructor immediately. At the end of the run, the pressure should slowly return to one atmosphere. If not, notify your instructor immediately and shut off the unit. Opening the chamber vent valve will release the steam. Close the valve when the pressure gauge returns to zero. |
