"Atrocities" in the Vietnam War and Generally

Please read carefully Chapter 12 in Young's book, "Bloodbaths (1968-1971)".

Then read carefully the Kevin Buckley article from Newsweek in 1972.

Discuss the issue of "atrocity".

• What kind of event is defined to be an "atrocity", in the use of this term in the U.S.?
• What kind of events are excluded by this definition?

Should the definition, or understanding, of the term "atrocity" be changed? If so, why? If not, why not?
