How To Set Your Mail Client To Send A Copy of All Your Mail To Yourself

It's very important to save a copy of all your assignments. You can do this manually -- type in your email address, or a 'nickname' for it, on your To: or Cc: or Bcc: line. This is fine -- except that you will forget sometime, and probably just when you need it.

Here is how to do it in three different types of email clients.

1. Alpha mail (what you are in when you type 'mail' at the $ prompt, like this:  $ mail  , and then press Enter).

2. PINE (on Alpha or other servers).

From the main menu, select Setup then choose Configure. About four or five screens down, there is an entry labled "customized-hdrs". Highlight that selection and add something like the following:

Bcc: Brian Kelly <KellyB@Mail.Montclair.edu>

This will send a blind carbon copy to your address. If you would like a normal carbon copy, change the "Bcc:" to "Cc:".

(NOTE: If you want those who receive your PINE mail to reply to another email address, you can add the following custom header to your PINE Configuration:

Reply-To: Brian Kelly <KellyB@Mail.Montclair.edu>

Most of you won't use this, but some might -- just for your information).

3. Web-Based Mail Clients. On HotMail there is a small box you must check, between the address header and the message area on the 'Compose' menu. You have to remember to do this each time on Hotmail -- it cannot be automated, as far as I can see.Other web-based clients have similar facilities.
