The Wyf of Bath's Prolog

Read the WBProl (abbreviation for the above), NOT the Tale as yet.

Please read it carefully, in Middle English.

If you need a Modern English translation, use one, but make sure you do READ, AND BRING TO CLASS, THE ORIGINAL MIDDLE ENGLISH.

(You can find a useful translation of the WBProl and WBT under "Translations" on the Harvard Chaucer Page, which is linked on our Home Page.)

Then read The Old Woman's Speech from Jean de Meun's Romance of the Rose (Roman de la Rose), in Kolve & Olson (2018 edition), 387- 395.

These were foundational texts in the Middle Ages, and contain many of the medieval "anti-feminist" attitudes.

Now, write about 300 words on the Wyf's attitude towards conventional medieval anti-feminist attitudes. This should be an interesting exercise!
