Assignment on John Milton, "Lycidas"

Read the poem very carefully.

Then go to these two pages at Professor John Rogers' course on Milton at Yale University.

On the "Lycidas 1" page you should

• read the lecture; see link to "html" at bottom of page.
• watch -- if you like -- the video of Prof. Rogers' lecture. As you'll see, it's available in Flash and also Quicktime versions. Whichever you choose -- Flash is the easiest, I think, but you may not -- remember to press the "start" arrow. In Flash, at least, it does not start automatically; you have to press the little arrow that points to the right, on the lower left corner of the video screen.

Do the same with the "Lycidas 2" page. Read the lecture (again, see "html" link at bottom of page); watch -- if you like -- the video.

I have also put both lectures on our Canvas page in one PDF file.

Write 300 words about at least three specific points in Rogers' interpretation of / lecture on "Lycidas" and related poems. "Specific" means: grapple with some of the points he makes. This will also assure that you read these lectures carefully (and/or watch them).
