Assignment on Finley, The World of Odysseus, Chapters 1 and 2

Study these two chapters carefully. Then, write 300 -350 words discussing the following issues:

• the similarities between Homeric society and that described in Hesiod and Ovid as the "Age of Iron."
• the differences between Homeric society and the Neolithic society of "the monument builders."

Can you think of why the society changed? What were the motive forces that caused Neolithic society to evolve, over a long time, into the Homeric/Hesiodic society?
