Second Assignment on Bret Harte, "The Outcasts of Poker Flat"

Once again: Read this famous short story carefully several times. Pay close attention to the actions and words of each of the characters. Note carefully who each one of them is.

Write 350 words or a bit more on TWO of the characters.

• All students should write 175 words or so about Mr. John Oakhurst

Write 175 words or so about two of the the other characters: 

• Group One: "the Duchess";
• Group Two: "Mother Shipton";
• Group Three: "Uncle Billy"
• [If there is a fourth group] Group Four: "Innocent" and "Piney Woods"
