Searching Listserv Archives

As I demonstrated in class today, this can be a tremendously
powerful research tool. In essence, it gives you the ability to do a
keyword search on the whole archive of any mailing list which uses the
popular "Listserv" software AND which keeps archives of posts. There
are a lot of academic mailing lists which do this, and many others
too. I demonstrated how fast and easy it is to get specific keyword
searches, with Boolean operators, on two mailing lists: CHAUCER, an
academic mailing list on Middle English Literature, and VWAR-L, a more
general mailing list about the Vietnam War and veterans' matters.

     Your assignment is as follows:

     1. make sure you are subscribed to at least ONE mailing list
which DOES use the "Listserv" software. If you are not already, you
must subscribe to one.

     2. Do a keyword search -- preferably one closely related to your
current research paper project. But, for the sake of the assignment,
any keyword search, on any "Listserv" mailing list, will do.

     3. Email me the results exactly as you get them -- i.e. 'forward'
the results to me at furrg@mail.montclair.edu.

Remember: I expect a DRAFT OF YOUR RESEARCH PAPER ON FRIDAY,
DECEMBER 4.
