Dear Students:

As you know, we will be holding some classes "remotely"  using Internet Relay Chat, or IRC.

In order to give you some practice in connecting to the IRC server, in preparation for these classes, I would like each of you to connect to the IRC server sometime in the next two days.  Type a line or two; and then sign off.

The directions for doing this are on my separate IRC web page, which is linked both to our Home Page and to the Homework Page.

You may choose to use mIRC, or a web browser. The page of IRC directions has full instructions for all.

The "channel" you will "join" is called:

• i2ltest -- for the Introduction to Literature class
• chtest -- for the Chaucer class
• vntest -- for the Vietnam War class
• ghtest -- for the General Humanities I class
• wltest -- for the World Literature class
• putest -- for the Pursuits class

Please follow the directions carefully and you will not have any problem.

Now, here is the kicker.

• If you DO have some problem, I want you to email me immediately, at least 48 hours before the class AT THE LATEST.

Then I'll be able to help you by email, so that you can participate in the classes.
