Theme of Racism in Carlos Bulosan, America Is In The Heart

One of the worst aspects of life in the United States for Carlos Bulosan is the extent of racism against Filipinos, including racist violence.

Bulosan is horrified, enraged, and also mystified at the racism he and others encounter.

Throughout the book Bulosan portrays himself as coming to understand many things that he had not previously understood.

How does he come to understand this racism? Where it comes from; what its motives are; who benefits from it?

Discuss Bulosan's evolving understanding of racism  (not simply his experience of it, which would lead you to summarize rather than analyze) by discussing at least three incidents in the book.
