(Text: The Broadview Anthology of Medieval Literature. The Middle Ages. 3rd edition.)
First:
Listen to as much of Beowulf as you want. The reader is Kemp Malone, one of the great scholars of Old English literature during from about 1920 to 1970.
Read the Introductory material to Beowulf on pp.65-67.
Then, read Beowulf up to the end of section 23, p. 90.
Review the previous assignment to make sure you remember the main points.
Make sure you are familiar with the helpful information on pp. 112-116. You don't have to memorize all this stuff. You have to know where it is, so you can consult it when the names in the poem become confusing.
