Reading Assignment: Read the folllowing texts:

Once again, you will have to study Robertson's excellent article by reading it carefully several times.

Once again, I have underlined certain parts that I think are especially worthy of attention. But the whole article must be studied, and thought about.

Then read up to the end of "Cligès.

Writing Assignment:

Pick TWO or THREE short passages in Part II of "Cligès" -- the part after line 2382 -- that should, in your view, be read ironically. You may use Robertson's article, but only if you cite it properly.

Write at least 300 words. You may quote, but the quoted text does not count towards your 300 word minimum.
