The Montclair State University Internet Service Provider (MSU-ISP)

All students are now eligible for Internet access from off-campus through MSU's new ISP program. You have already paid for this service through your tuition and fees, so take advantage of it!

Even if you have another ISP, such as AOL, ATT, or any other, you should still get an MSU ISP account and set it up on your off-campus (home, etc.) computer. You can have many ISPs on a single computer; they will not conflict (naturally, you can only connect to one at a time).

You can continue to use your own Internet software, if you already have it, such as NetScape, Telnet and FTP clients, etc. Or, you can download such programs from the MSU-ISP site. (NOTE to AOL Users: You cannot use any proprietary AOL software on MSU ISP or any other ISP except for AOL).

The advantage of using the MSU ISP:

• it's free! (you've already paid for it)
• you can access licensed research sites only available from an MSU ISP. All I.P. numbers beginning with 130.68 are MSU numbers.

Sprague Library's Home Page is here. With an MSU ISP at your off-campus site, you can use such important research resources as:

• Infotrac, EBSCO, and JSTOR, searchable databases of scholarly articles and reviews on many subjects;
• Lexis-Nexis, database for legal materials (Lexis) and many kinds of newspaper, magazine, and mass media materials (Nexis)
• The Johns Hopkins Guide to Literary Theory & Criticism, an important resource for literature students.
• The MLA Bibliography, an indispensible tool for any literature student.
• Humanities Index and Social Science Index -- important bibliographical databases for research.
• Encyclopedia Brittanica on-line.

To access these and other databases, except for the Johns Hopkins Guide, go to the MSU Library Home Page first.

Naturally, all these resources are available from any on-campus computer lab as well.

I will be assigning materials from these resources from time to time, since they are now accessible to everyone.
