"Tradition and the Individual Talent". Then reread
Eagleton, pp. 33 ff., on Eliot's role in "The Rise of English
Studies."

     Then, read 
Chris Baldick's introduction to his book The Social Mission of
English Criticism 1848-1932. Eagleton drew heavily from Baldick's
work in Chapter One of Literary Theory: An Introduction.

     Please write 300 words analyzing the concept of "Tradition" found
in Eliot's essay. Do you think Eagleton has correctly characterized
Eliot's views or not? Explain carefully why, with example, in either
case.
