Discussion of Important Issues on Threadded Web Discussion Forum
For Tuesday, please contribute TWO posts to the discussion on our
new Threadded Web Discussion Forum. "Threadded" means that when you
"reply" to someone else's post, or to someone else's "reply" to an
even prior post, your "reply" is indented beneath that post, to give a
visual "map" or indication of the "thread" of the discussion. "Thread"
refers to a single topic, of course. This is the method used by
dedicated Usenet Newsgroup readers (if you don't know what that is,
ask somebody...).
Read the directions carefully. They work!
Post ONE "post" -- a contribution with a NEW subject line and
that is NOT a reply to an earlier post -- and one "reply", which IS a
reply to an earlier post or to an earlier reply.
The subject is: the chapters of Labor's Untold Story which
we have already read, supplemented by any and all other readings for
this course, especially non-fictional, but including the fiction as
well. I'd like to concentrate, though, on LUS.
Pick one topic to discuss. Give your ideas. Please use
specific references (a page number will do; no quotations, please) to
LUS. Topics include those I raised in class today: violence,
exploitation, racism, "Labor History" vs. other history; class bias in
history; class dictatorship vs. formal democracy. You can think of
others as well.
(These topics have also been included in what has been called
The Underside of American History, a famous anthology of
articles published in the early 1970s and now long out of print.)
Post your original "post" of 150 words or so. Then, wait a day or
more, and post a "reply" to someone else's post. You may post MORE
than one "reply". Make sure that all your "replies" together total at
least 150 words, more if you like, and post as many "replies" as you
like.
The idea is to get a discussion going.
Please be thoughtful, and fully engaged.
