Class Hatred and Class Ideology in The Proud and the Free

Read through the first three parts, and pay special attention to Part Three (pages 41-74).

Find three passages in which the "class nature" of the American Revolution is discussed. By "class nature", I mean a passage that discusses some of the following:

• whose interest the American Revolution is serving;
• what Jamie Stuart would like to do with the American Revolution -- whose interest he would _like_ it to serve;
• who is leading the Revolution; who is benefitting, and who is being harmed.

Write abaout 300 words altogether. Please DO NOT SUMMARIZE! We've all read the novel. Rather, discuss the passages you choose. Identify the passages by page number.

Email to me and to your group by 8 p.m. the evening before class, so that your whole group can have a chance to read all the assignments before class. This will enrich the class discussion.
