Assignment on Richard Wright, "Blueprint for Negro Writing" and "I Have Seen Black Hands"

Start by reading the Wikipedia page on Richard Wright. Wright was a major American author during his lifetime and one of the foremost American writers of the 20th century.

Wright was closely associated with the Communist Party USA during the period when he wrote his major works. This is evident in both the works we are reading for tody.

Study Wright's "Blueprint..." carefully. Read it over several times, and think about it.

Write 150 words briefly summarizing Wright's "Blueprint..." One way to do this is to write a sentence -- two at the most -- for each important paragraph. But you can do the summary however you wish.

Then do the same with the poem "I Have Seen Black Hands."

How does the poem follow, or measure up to, the "Blueprint..."? Examine the poem carefully for similarities and differences.

Write 200 words on this topic.

Total assignment: 350 words or a bit more, quotations not included (you may use quotations but they will not count as part of your 350 words).
