These instructions cover the transfer of data
from the DU-640 Spectrophotometer to the PC. Detailed operating instructions
for the DU-640 will be found in the instrument manual and instructions for
using the data capture software are available from the program’s help screen.
1. Turn on the DU-640's monitor, the PC, and the printer. If
you have to turn on the DU-640, the main power switch is located on the rear
of the instrument.
2. Running the DU-640:
a. On the bottom of the menu screen, click on the
UV and VIS options to turn them on.
b. Select your measurement mode from the menu at the top of the
screen. Most work is done in the “routine measurement” mode.
c. Proceed with your determinations, do not attempt transferring
data to the computer until completing the steps outlined below.
3. Preparing for capturing spectrometer data on the PC.
a. Locate the software by progressing from “start”
- “Programs” - “Biochem” - “Data Capture.”
b. Click on the “activate” button in the dialog box.
c. Confirm that these indicators are displaying: COM2 (green),
CD (red), and DSR (red). The specrophotometer icon will be blinking
red and yellow.
d. You are now ready to transfer data.
4. Sending the data. Perfrom these steps at the DU-640
a. After completing the analysis click on the “Save/Clear”
option which will appear at the top of the screen.
b. You must give the file an unique name. Click on the file
name and you will be prompted to enter a new name.
c. Make sure the choice to “transmit” the data is checked.
(The small box will turn white.) Saving the data to the floppy disk
is optional.
d. Click OK
5. Analysing the data.
a. Locate the software by progressing from “start”
- “Programs” - “Biochem” - “File Utility.”
b. Use the “File” menu to open the file containing your results.
c. The data will be located with the following path:
C:\Program files\du data capture\data\scan_d
You may have to use the “up one level” icon to locate the data. Working
in the "file" "open" dialog box search for: C:\...\duwinconnection\datacapture\data
Go up to the "C" drive menu for "duwinconnection"
Select "Du Data Capture"
Select "Data"
The sample data will be in one of the folders
If you get lost and can't find your data, you may run the Windows - Find
(or Search) program to locate it. But clicking on the file will not
open up the data interpretation window. Return to the "File Utility"
program before attempting to open your data file.
d. Use the graph button to see a visual trace of your spectra.
This is the small red bar graph icon. Use the "Convert" option on
the menu bar to create an Excel file with your data. Additional assistnace
can be found using the on-screen help.
6. If you are the last user, turn off the UV and VIS lamps.
7. Turn off the DU-640's monitor, the PC, and the printer. Do
not turn off the DU-640 unless told to by your instructor.
