Aparna Varde

Dr. Aparna Varde is the Head of the Center for Data Mining, a Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory in Computer Science at Montclair State University --- collaborating on various projects with: other CS faculty at MSU, the Department of Linguistics at MSU, the Department of Environmental Science at MSU, the Materials Science Program at WPI, the Department of Engineering and Technology at Virginia State University, and the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, Germany

• Data Mining
  Text Mining: Terminology evolution in web and text; Temporal issues in mining; Development of markup languages for mining XML based information.
  Scientific Data Mining:Proposing techniques to solve problems such as computational estimation, engineering simulations and green engineering issues; Distance function learning for complex data such as graphs and images; Data pre-processing and post-processing issues; Application domains include Environmental Management, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and other related areas.
  Visualization in Mining: Defining interestingness measures for user displays; Automating domain expert reasoning in visually analyzing data; Ranking and approximate query processing issues.

  Machine Learning: Classifiers in Computational Linguistics; Optimization of algorithms, Development of heuristics; Search methods in learning.
  Expert Systems: Predictive and diagnostic analysis; Advisory role of experts.
