New Instructions for Creating 'Plain Text Only' Emails on MSU Gmail -- January 18, 2023

Also, How To Tell If Your Email is in 'Plain Text Only'

1. How To Create 'Plain Text Only' Emails on MSU Gmail.

NOTE: I have tried this many times with all kinds of formatted texts – bold face, underlining, colored fonts, different fonts, etc.

All have been in Plain Text Only when I received them at my second email address.

Here are the NEW instructions:

1. Write up your assignment. Make sure you have a BLANK LINE BETWEEN EACH PARAGRAPH.

2. Create a new email in the usual manner by using the “Compose” button.

3. Copy and paste your assignment -- formatting and all -- from your Word Processing program into the new email.

4. At the bottom of your email, beside the blue “Send” button, you’ll see a row of icons.

At the end of this row of icons there are three vertical dots.

* Click on those dots.

* Click on “Plain Text Mode.”

Use a correct Subject Line and Email Address. Send your email.

The result will be an email in Plain Text Only.

You can still use the old instructions here, if you prefer.

2. How To Tell If Your Email Is In 'Plain Text Only.'

1. If your message has already been sent, do this::

* Click on the desired email

* Click on the three little dots by the reply button \

* Click show original

2. The email has to be sent first in order for a source code to show up.

* Once you send your message, you will be able to view it.

* The only difference is you will have to go it your sent mail folder and follow the same steps for viewing the source code.

* So you should email it to yourself first, and then check.
