There are some cultures in the world where it is acceptable for people to know everything about one another. Usually within small communities, people know everything about you and your family; and you know everything about their's. Personal questions are frequently asked at will and are answered with no resentment. In America however, personal information such as a person's salary, debt and health information are not openly revealed.
